Well I have some good but mostly bad news for anyone who liked and followed MMOData.net.

v4.1 will be the final version of MMOData.net, and MMOData.net will close down on June 2014.
That's right I am closing shop.

The biggest reason is that it is getting increasingly difficult to get any useful numbers. Also many of the subscription based MMORPG's went free to play, and their companies tend to not give out useful active accounts numbers.

As for the only growing subscription based MMORPG left, EVE Online, I no longer receive subscription numbers. CCP no longer responds to my requests.
It is a shame really, I doubt that their numbers are declining, but I lost a bit of confidence in CCP, I hope they will give out useful numbers to the public on a consistent basis.

A bit of better news for some of you, because I am closing down the site in 6 months, I will make the complete excel of the MMOData charts available for download. This includes the exact datapoints and their sources or estimate information.

Well that's it, I hope most of you enjoyed the MMOData charts, and perhaps someone will pick up where I left off.
Hey all

It took a long time, but here I am back again, presenting you v4.0 of the
MMOData.net charts.

While this version has a reasonable amount of additions and changes, I
expect following versions to have quite a bit less. It is becoming increasingly
difficult to get any subscription numbers. Not in the least, because
subscription based MMORPG’s are the exception these days. Most of them go free
to play.

I definatly do not like this evolution, because I am a gamer who prefers
fair competition, and therefore prefer a level playing field. Still, this is
the direction the genre is heading for a couple of years now.

That does not mean there are no options for the true gamers amongst us.
There is EVE Online, Ryzom, Ultima Online and a few more.

World of Warcraft is taking its second nosedive after a small recovery
around oktober 2012. Landing at around 7,7 million subs. Still the biggest MMORPG
out there, but at this rate EVE Online may overtake WoW in a couple of years :p

Talking about EVE Online, that is still the example of how to do things in
the post - WoW era. While CCP thought they were becoming the dinosaur of the
industry, and therefore had to implement a cash shop with micro transactions.
They realized their mistakes in time ( after their customers reminded them
where their loyalty must lie Riots-in-eve-against-microtransactions
). And turned around and got back on track making EVE Online a better game.

CCP is being rewarded now, with a PCU ( peak concurrent users ) of over
65.000 and over 500.000 monthly playing subscribers and a continued growth
every year since release, now more than 10 years ago.

At this moment EVE Online is the second biggest subscription based MMORPG in
the west, and the only subscription based MMORPG that is still growing in the
west and probably in the world.

If you make a game for gamers, with good features, it will sell and people
will pay a monthly fee.

The new PCU for EVE also means it is now the MMORPG with largest shard (
single game world ) in the world, passing Second Life which has now a PCU of
around 63.000 players. It will be still a while before the absolute record will
be broken tho ( 88.000 PCU in Second Life a few years ago ).

Then some notes about requests I received, following MMORPG’s have my
interest, but I have no reliable data for them and can't add them to the charts
: Tera, The Secret World, and many more.

About World of Tanks, no I can't add it to the charts, because it isn't an MMORPG.
And no they haven't gotten the record PCU for MMO's on a single shard, because
a chat room combined with several 30 player games does not make one single game
world, but several instances of tiny game worlds :)

So that's about it for now. If there is something new, you will be notified
via twitter ( or you can regularly check the site :p ).Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-36304284916432495702013-08-03T07:54:00.000-07:002013-12-29T06:02:18.710-08:00MMOData Charts version 4.0 is Live !Version 3.9 - 4.0 notes :

Well the good news is that v3.9 is finished, the bad news is that it took so long it is already outdated :p

So that's why I decided to go ahead and work on v4.0 which I will release in the near future.

Update 14/05/2013 :

Well I haven't been able to work on v4.0 or MMOData.net as a whole for a long time now. Life happend.

Still I will be reviving the site. Thinking of perhaps making it a community effort somehow.

Just letting you all know MMOData.net is not dead just yet :p

Here a few teasers :

I just got the Q4 quarterly report from EA, and they report 1,3m subs, so I will add this.
My latest estimate of 1,41m subs was pretty generous, however I always try to be conservative in my estimates, whether they are downward or upward.

What it does show me is that the Xfire numbers are a good indication to base estimates off, purely based on Xfire I would have estimated 1,2m.

CCP has send me new EVE numbers, they look good, 361k subs, so they can celebrate their 9th anniversary knowing they are back on the rise.

I also added various other datapoints and some improvements to the site, like a twitter follow link.

So expect v3.9 soon.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com9Antwerpen, Belgium51.2192159 4.402881851.0600899 4.0870248 51.3783419 4.7187388000000006tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-60879371089470253432012-03-11T16:14:00.020-07:002012-08-29T14:33:53.472-07:00Version 3.8 thoughts and commentsVersion 3.8 is only a small update, mainly to add the revised datapoint for Star Wars The Old Republic.

I will also talk about Runescape and Second Life, which I didn't mention in my v3.7 thoughts and comments.

About Star Wars The Old Republic

While I thought I would not get any new SWTOR numbers any time soon, I was mistaken, we got some new numbers, although not very exact ones, so I was not not completely wrong either :)

I get my new info from the 2012 Wedbush Conference, here are the comments from EA. I will quote the parts we are interested in :

Star Wars, this is an area that I think has got a lot of people anxious. I've heard from investors today saying that we must have 800,000 subscribers. I heard 600,000 yesterday. So what I think a lot of people have misunderstood is we said we had 1.7 million subscribers on the last call, which was about a month ago. What that was about was the fact that only about – just about half that number had triggered through their 30-day point and become active subscribers, our definition of recurring subscribers.

We had about half that total still in the 30-day trial period, but they're subscribers because that first month is including with a package good. What I said a month ago was, just over half. I can now confirm for you today that the vast majority of the 1.7 is now triggered through that point and they're recurring subscribers.

I am not giving you my fiscal 2013 guidance, but it is very clear on the surface that some of the craziness that was out there in terms of misunderstanding [ph] this is that I can (10:04) clear up today. It's a very strong entry. We still have a lot of future in front of us. We're two months into the launch, a lot more to go, but 1.7 million, vast majority now, are recurring subscribers.

And here, for reference the quote from the quarterly conference call on February 1 :

Let me offer some metrics on purchase and subscription that will help you understand thisbusiness. As John stated, we have sold through two million units of the game since December. We currently have a little over 1.7 million active subscribers. The rest have either not started playing yet or have opted out.

So the vast majority of the 1,7m resubscribed, now we have to determine what that vast majority is :p, 80%, 90% maybe? If I lay this info next to the Xfire numbers and server load I can come up with a pretty close estimate, and that is what I did in v3.8, where the number is revised upwards.

After the initial rush, there was a steep decline in activity, but overall SWTOR manages to keep a sizable chunk of players subscribed.
I have to conclude that SWTOR is a bit more stable than I initially estimated and many players keep paying while not playing or playing a lot less.

I will keep a close eye on the game, there is still a large untapped potential in Asia, where they were off to a reasonable start in the Asia pacific region with 3 heavy loaded servers.

Lastly, I consider the game stabilized now, if the server loads and Xfire metrics drop even more, and no new official numbers are released, the charts will reflect the decline, I will wait until April before making any attempts on a new estimate.

About Runescape

It may look that Runescape lost a lot of subscribers, and they did, but there are 2 important factors you should take into consideration :

First of all with the migration from Runescape Classic to Runescape 2 there may have been some players lost, my listing does not differentiate between the two. Nowadays Runescape 2 is just called Runescape and Runescape Classis is pretty much closed down.

Secondly, and more important, the war against bots, macroers and other cheaters increased to unbelievable heights.
In 2009 Thousands got banned, but that was peanuts compared to the 9,2 million banned accounts in 2011. 9,2 million, I think that must be the largest anti cheater operation in history.

I applaud Jagex for fighting the good fight.

About Second Life

Well they did it, they stopped giving out their quarterly reports. Now it is not that big of a deal anymore since they basically stripped all the useful numbers out of the report over the years.
Tateru Nino has a good article on it here.
IMHO Linden Labs and Second Life are not doing great, otherwise they would keep publishing the reports. But the decline did not start today, as was already apparent by their stagnating numbers tipping into a decline.

I do hope the PCU numbers will stay published, so we still have some kind of an idea how the game ( or metaverse ) is doing.

I had to retract the last 2 datapoints from WoW East and WoW West as it became clear my estimates were based old information in one case and unreliable information in the other.

Furthermore, because the WoW East and WoW West are less reliable than WoW Global, even with the last 2 retractions, I made a separate rating for WoW East and WoW West and downgraded their rating to B.

I realize that I must revise the datapoints more carefully before publishing them. I haven't had to do many retractions in the past, and I will do my best to avoid it in the future.

That being said, v3.7 became more than just a revision. I was able to add 2 new Asian MMORPG's, Wen Dao and Journey to the West, because I found a second datapoint for each of them.

I was able to add many new datapoints for EVE, including subscriptions, trials and even Chinese subscriptions. For SWTOR and STO there are is also a new datapoint, they are estimates and you can check the comments on the V3.7 version notes to get an idea on how I came there. Because STO went F2P I changed it from SS to AA.

I fixed some issues and cosmetic stuff and last but not least added vertical gridlines to easier detect misalignment problems, add this to the improved checks and sums ( internal only )from v3.6 and nothing can go wrong anymore ( I wish :p ).

About EVE Online

I received more datapoints from CCP, they truly are the most trustworthy source in the industry. They kept providing me with datapoints when EVE Online was in the decline. But this time they have better news. Their subscriptions have gotten back up to 352,5k in March 2012 from a lowpoint of 340k in December 2012. They had a little dip in between with the release of SWTOR, but as I expected, they quickly recovered, and I believe the recovery may even become a new high in the next few months.

It all depends of course how they will handle EVE Online, and if they will continue to do it right. If they keep improving the spaceship game as they are doing since the Incarna debacle and improve Incarna sandbox style instead of with microtransactions I think they have large potential. I think they realised by now they are not the dinosaur of the industry, even if they get rid of microtransactions, but they are the turtle of the industry, slowly moving forward but outliving all others. I still have quite a bit of reservations on the implementation of Dust, but we will tackle that when we get there.

I have also added EVE Online Global and China AA ( Active Accounts ), this includes the Global server Tranquility, the China server Serenity and the trial accounts. This way you get an idea of how many people are playing EVE Online around the globe, but by keeping the EVE Online Global SS ( Subscriptions ) listed separatly, we still have a view on the health of EVE Online on the main Tranquility server. As always, SS is more important than AA here at MMOData.net, but having them both is even better.

About Star Wars The Old Republic

It is clear their active players are dropping quite a bit, and this is without a doubt translated into their subscription number.

My opinion is that SWTOR has a good base game with enough quality content for a newly released game and at the same time it was released quite polished. The problem is that you burn thru the content too fast because it is just too easy, couple this with a light endgame and a thin social fabric and players reach the point of leaving the game rather sooner than later.

To elaborate on this further, when you level out of an area before you have done all the content, you either have to skip it, or fight green/gray mobs. If you at the same time want to do all the flashpoints and space missions a few times, then you are definitely fighting gray mobs and there is no longer any challenge.

So I bet most of the players that stopped playing just skipped the content and went to the endgame pretty fast. Too bad that the endgame is quite light, which is understandable for a newly released MMORPG, but when the MMORPG is so easy it becomes a serious handicap.

Add to this that the social fabric is quite thin because of the heavy use of instancing, quick travel, light guild features, redundancy of crafting and so on, and it becomes clear that there is little to keep the players from leaving.

At this rate I don't see EA Bioware putting out enough content to keep the players satisfied, they just can't keep up. It is a mystery to me why they made the content so easy, give out a good chunk less XP and you would have a different situation. I mean the content is there, why force players to skip it?

The way I see it is that you should be able to do all of the regular content and then a combination of flashpoints, bonus series and space missions before leveling out of an area.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-22718679279334382962012-03-04T17:09:00.011-08:002012-03-24T12:25:06.122-07:00MMOData Charts version 3.7 is live !Version 3.7 notes :
However there are some indications that numbers are going down a bit, I will keep a close eye on it, especially now between 20/02/2012 and 23/02/2012, when the bulk of the players have to resubscribe for the second time since release.

Then on to EVE Online, they went back to their roots, and despite the launch of SWTOR, the only serious competition in sci-fi mmorpg's since the launch of EVE, it's holding ground.
It looks like EVE is on route to full recovery, and SWTOR seems to be just a bump in the road. I can even imagine that SWTOR may become the boost that EVE needs to get back to their previous 370k and then over the 400k subs.

How is that you may ask, well, another interesting trend is that the Sci-Fi subgenre has grown substantially because of SWTOR, and once the novelty wears off, people may choose Sci-Fi again and pick EVE, and leave all the fantasy mmorpg's for what they are.

Now then, where did all these SWTOR subs come from? Well there is definitely a good chunk of WoW players that switched sides. If we look at the Western market, then SWTOR is close to half the numbers of WoW now. However after the initial bleed WoW seems to be stabilized. And I believe SWTOR also introduced a good chunk of new mmorpg'ers, expanding the market.

Meanwhile I am already planning v3.7
I am trying to get some numbers for Star Trek, now that they went F2P. They got a serious boost in Active Accounts, no doubt about it. I may be able to make an estimate for v3.7
I also got some weird numbers on Runescape, so I will investigate that.
And I will take another look at the Asian market and see if I can digg up some more PCU's from there.

Update :

Looks like I made a mistake on the WoW East / WoW West distribution.
Expect a new version soon rectifying this mistake and also new numbers for EVE, showing a nice growth.
Besides that, I will rate WoW East and WoW West separately from now on, it will receive a B-rating.
This on top of the already mentioned additions for v3.7
V3.7 is expected to be released on March 5.

Update2 :

I have retracted some of the WoW East / WoW West datapoints, this change is online right now on a temporary version of the 1m+ chart.
But now I found a misalignment issue on the 1m+ chart. This places the datapoints 6 months before their correct date. Keep this in mind when looking at this chart. This will be fixed in v3.7.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-77459569974727790202012-02-20T14:30:00.014-08:002012-03-24T12:25:02.896-07:00MMOData Charts version 3.6 is Live !Version 3.6 notes :

It has been a while, I have mainly been waiting for some numbers on Star Wars The Old Republic before releasing new charts. And my prayers have been heard :p

They have 1,7m subscribers resubscribing after the first month, out of 2m copies sold, that's pretty impressive.

source : Reuters

Besides the SWTOR addition to the charts there will be new numbers for EVE Online, Second Life and some others.

Expect v3.6 to be released soon(tm)

Update :

Some people claimed that the 1,7m subs are from December. This is actually incorrect.
Here is a quote from EA from the Q3 conference call, note that this conference call is held on February 1, 2012 :

"Let me offer some metrics on purchase and subscription that will help you understand this business. As John stated, we have sold through two million units of the game since December.
We currently have a little over 1.7 million active subscribers. The rest have either not started playing yet or have opted out."

Currently means like right now and "or have opted out" means that this is after the first 30 days since release, when the first batch of players could have opted out on their subscription.

Well EA could also be lying on their Q3 report, but I doubt that.
Anyone can check the Q3 quarterly results conference call on the EA website.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-82158082672935112802011-10-09T13:39:00.003-07:002012-03-24T12:24:59.219-07:00MMOData Charts version 3.5 is Live !Hey all,

This is only a small update, and way later than it should have been, nonetheless, here it is.

Most interesting is that EVE is holding on to it's subs, at least up to July 2011, altho the PCU is dropping. We will have to wait and see if the PCU drop is only due to the summer holidays or if there is a more structural problem with subscriptions.

Meanwhile CCP is working hard to get the veterans back on board :
a letter to the followers of eve
eve updating - winter expansion 2011

Moving on to World of Warcraft, Blizzard can not curb the downard trend it started in May and hits a new low at 11,1m subs, however if this trend continues, WoW will live on for a good while.

Actually, I think both EVE and WoW are still one of the more alive MMORPG's on the market, and with the right adjustments they can have a bright future.

Eve Online, World of Warcraft
- Added following MMORPG's to the PCU 0-500k chart :
Tera Korea, ZT Online II
Emergency CSM meeting ( edit : results are in )After the EVE meltdown, CCP called for an emergency CSM meeting.

MadOverlord aka Trebor from the CSM gives us some hope.
And this is what CCP and the CSM has come up with :

It is not perfect, far from it, but it is a step in the right direction.
I am still puzzled as to why they just can't simply return the old hangar view with a "disembark to captain quarters" button, but we will have to wait and see what they come up with.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-3143794589230742472011-06-26T15:33:00.002-07:002012-03-24T12:24:55.654-07:00MMOData Charts version 3.4 is Live !Hey all,

With me having more time to spare, I pulled MMOData from maintenance mode and went back to full throttle.

Most important change for the future is the addition of Active Accounts, which will allow me to list more MMORPG's overall. From now on, all MMORPG's will be marked as AA ( Active Acounts ) or SS ( Subscriptions ), so it is easy to see the difference. Clearly Subscriptions are more important but it is interesting to see Active Accounts as well I believe.

Most interesting additions right now are of course the newly released Rift and the decline of WoW. I received a usable datapoint for Rift right before the deadline so there you go.

WoW going from 12 million to 11,4 million is to me a result of making the game to easy to max level. You can't even experience all the content because you level out of the areas way before you have seen it all. Same goes for instance queueing, and god forbid you want to do instances AND quests ... it is a shame really, because the game has improved content wise imho.

Second Life makes a serious entrance in the Active Accounts department, I also got back on track with the PCU datapoints for Second Life, thanks to Dwell On It.

Version 3.4 notes :

General Changes :

- Migrated the Subscription charts to Subscriptions and Active Accounts charts. Each MMORPG received a tag ( AA = Active Accounts or SS = Subscriptions ).
- Added Rift to the charts.
- Added Subscription and/or Active Account datapoints for Wow, Aion, LOTRO, Second life, EVE Online and Rift.
- Added a Subscription datapoint for WoW East and West for January 2009 using the previous ratio, this was needed because otherwise it made it look incorrect on the charts, East and West seemed to increase while Global went down. In reality there was nothing wrong, it just seemed that way because Global had more datapoints.
- Removed the Chinese downtime datapoint for WoW on the 1m to 12m chart. The WoW specific chart still shows the Chinese downtime datapoint for reference.
- Added PCU datapoints for Second life.
- Made some revisions to following Subscription and/or Active Account datapoints : AoC, Aion, LOTRO, WAR, DDO
- Removed the Second Life subscription datapoints as they were quite old and no new data was available. This has been replaced with MUURL numbers ( Monthly Unique User Repeat Logins ) and therefore Second Life datapoints are now marked as Active Accounts.
- Moved Second Life from the 50k - 150k chart to NR 1 in the 150k - 1m chart.
- Moved Lord of the Rings Online up to NR 4 in the 150k - 1m chart.
- Removed a Perpetuum datapoint for better visibility.
- Changed the Accuracy Rating system : removed the D rating and adjusted the C rating. Revised the MMORPG ratings accordingly.
- Made some adjustments to the "Requirements for MMO's to be allowed on the site and charts" section under the "Accuracy Rating and Requirements".
- Made some cosmetic changes to the site.
- Added Dwell on it to contributers.

Internal Changes :

- Added a lot of source data.
- Removed unusable source data.
- Removed unusable Second Life data.
- Fixed several internal errors.
- Removed market share chart.
- Added EVE Online Active Accounts in addition to Subscriptions. Active Accounts include the Trial Accounts.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-22584617422465127622011-06-24T13:52:00.000-07:002013-12-29T05:58:08.415-08:00Riots in EVE against Microtransactions and forced Incarna expansionHey everyone,

For the first time in EVE there are massive protests in all the major trade hubs.

The reason is the introduction of microtransactions into the game, the crazy prices charged for them, a leaked document from CCP where several high profile employees support the introduction of gameplay impacting microtransactions ( on top of the newly added vanity items ) and the forcing of the Incarna expansion on the EVE players by removing the old station hangar and loading directly into the captains quarters.

CCP has broken the trust from the players, by first promissing gameplay altering microtransactions would not be introduced ( meanwhile making plans to do just this ) and secondly by telling that Incarna would be optional ( with a "leave ship" button when inside the station hangar ), and now breaking also that promise.

Not to mention it is a very bad idea to introduce microtransactions to an established mmorpg in the first place, especially when said mmorpg has 360k+ subs and growing!

CCP are changing the foundations of EVE for no good reason but wanting to get fucking filthy rich instead of just filthy rich. And furthermore it is higly unlikely that they will earn more money this way, because history has shown, that for EVE, the pure subscription model works very well. Expand and improve the game and get rewarded by custumers staying and more customers joining.

EVE is as much a creation by the players as it is by CCP, by destroying the trust, EVE will failcascade hard, just like Star Wars Galaxies did, that other well known Sci-Fi sandbox, which will close down this december. SWG closing down
Which of course is the result of the CU and the NGE, where the SWG foundation was completely changed by changing many sandbox aspects into themepark systems, as Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts aimed for replacing their current playerbase by more and better players. This completely backfired and the game dropped from 300k to less than 50k subscriptions over time.

The trade hubs Jita and Amarr are already capped and the statues burning, Rens and Dodixie are going next, altho at Rens and Dodixie the protest is more peacefull because there is no statue to shoot at those locations, and the protest is limited to shouting slogans as "Hell no, we won't micro" and "No forced Incarna!".

I am waiting on a few numbers for confirmation and will revise the whole thing during this week.

It has become a more beefy upgrade, now that I have some more time to spare. So you guessed it, MMOData is now officially off "Maintenance mode" and back in full throttle.

Here are some of the highlights you can expect in v3.4 :

- A new WoW datapoint : 11,4m, showing a substantial decline( comming from 12m ). I do not expect WoW to recover this time, unless some drastic but well thought out changes are made.

- For the first time, I am introducing Active Accounts to the charts. Each MMORPG will receive a tag ( AA = Active Accounts or SS = Subscriptions ). So it is clear what the datapoints represent.
Because of this, I was able to add new Active Account datapoints for LOTRO and Second Life.

- I made some adjustments to the "Requirements for MMO's to be allowed on the site and charts" section under the "Accuracy Rating and Requirements", mostly to accomodate the introduction of Active Accounts.

- I changed the Accuracy Rating system : removed the D rating and adjusted the C rating and revised the MMORPG ratings accordingly. This will make it a bit easier for me to choose which rating an MMORPG will get and it will be more accurate because of this. It will also be more clear for you, the readers.

- Added alot of internal information and datapoints, that will most likely result in more numbers for next version (3.5).

The Active Accounts introduction as wel as catching up with the latest in MMORPG land was a bit of work, but I am back up to speed now.

I do have to dissapoint the many people who requested Rift to be added, I really want too, but I just don't have enough information. So if anyone has more information regarding Rift that might help put it on the charts, that would be very welcome.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-81113101921947513152011-06-19T16:45:00.000-07:002013-12-29T05:57:40.688-08:00The Syndicate - Beyond The LegendSean Stalzer made a book called "The Syndicate - Beyond The Legend".

Most important updates are,

The addition of Perpetuum to the charts. A relative new and small MMORPG. After the initial hype their subs dropped substantially, however it seems that they are slowly curving up now. I wish them all the best with their sandbox Sci-Fi mmorpg as there are only few of them.

EVE Online, that other sandbox Sci-Fi game is doing great again. After it's biggest growth month over month in Juli 2010, it had a little dip during September - November 2010, but now they are growing again. And it looks like a small but sustainable growth, it had 358k in Januari 2011 and 364k in May ( which is higher than the 361k in Juli and thus it's highest number yet ).

The previous high was in Juli 2010 with 361389 subs, so now CCP has an increase of almost 3000 subs.

They had a dip in between the two records, which was to be expected as their previous high was the biggest growth they ever achieved month over month. Their current high looks alot more stable as they had 357918 subs in Februari 2011.

So it seems they are back, growing slowly but steadily, as they have the past 8 years ( Oh yeah, happy birthday EVE Online :p ).

Their latest expansion, Incursion, is also generally better received by the playerbase than the previous, Tyrannis and it seems CCP is listening more to the players now than ever.

Thanks to CCP for providing me with numbers ( even if they are not good at times ).Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-11945863306931579622011-05-09T14:50:00.001-07:002013-12-29T05:57:01.226-08:00New version in the worksHello everyone,

I finally found some spare time to work on the charts again. So stay tuned :p

See you soon.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7226487765587657427.post-85545107801171544472010-12-25T09:04:00.002-08:002012-03-24T12:24:48.098-07:00MMOData Charts version 3.2 is Live !The MMOData Charts are currently running in maintenance mode.

This means that I will add all official datapoints that I receive from the stakeholders ( Devs, Publishers, ... ) directly. On top of that I will add datapoints that are easily verified ( for example the official Blizzard press releases ). And datapoints that are send to me by mail from one of the fans, if this includes the source and easely usable datapoints.

What I will not do anymore ( for now ) is make estimates, derivations, heavy research to find new sources and datapoints, etc. Because these things take too much time.

This will also result in data that is even more accurate ( will do only accuracy A and B ) and the mmo's that do not get updated are probably not doing great ( otherwise they would boast about it ).

This probably means that their numbers are declining. It is not so good news for MMOData.net. The latest number I got, 71k, derrived from Dwell on it, confirms that assumption. Furthermore Linden also stopped publishing monthly logins since october 2010.
Dwell on it seems still able to get the 14-day PCU numbers.

Either way, I will try to contact Linden Labs to see if I can get some more information.

On a brighter note, Perpetuum Online has contacted me to provide numbers, they are small, but it does not matter, and they use the same server strategy as EVE Online, so that may become interesting.Cyberwizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04351008841887505736noreply@blogger.com0
